The NPD has released the top selling games on all of 2009, and it probably wouldn’t surprise you that Modern Warfare 2 took the top spot in sales, taking only one and a half months to do so. It probably also wouldn’t surprise you that Nintendo was sure to also dominate this sales chart aswell, having seven of their titles on the top ten list. The top ten selling games for 2009 can be found below.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | Xbox 360
- Wii Sports Resort | Wii
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii | Wii
- Wii Fit | Wii
- Wii Fit Plus | Wii
- Mario Kart Wii | Wii
- Wii Play | Wii
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | PlayStation 3
- Halo 3: ODST | Xbox 360
- Pokemon Platinum Version | Nintendo DS
Last month was December 2009, which served big sales for video game consoles and games themselves. Nintendo dominated the sales chart as usual in December selling over 3.8 million Wii’s and 3.3 million sales for the DS. Even though Nintendo had very strong sales, every other console has a significant boost in sales, both the PS3 and the 360 sold over 1.3 consoles with PS3 in third place behind Nintendo and the 360 barely in fourth, PSP and even the PS2 had a significant boost in sales. As for game sales… Well you can probably guess what sold the most this month.
NPD Numbers for console and game sales after the break.
Ubisoft has announced many things today that has to do with their upcoming games and the company, the first thing, if you haven’t seen the news post on the subject is that Splinter Cell: Conviction will be pushed back to April, the highly anticipated shooter for PC and 360 was originally planned to release next month…
Raving Rabbids 4, that crazy funny game on the Wii was just announced today and is planned to release some time between April 1st of this year to April 1st of 2011. This period is also when they plan to release the next Driver game, Ubisoft bought the series while it was going nowhere but down (Driver: Parallel Lines) and with some luck, they could bring the series back to where it was.
Ubisoft has also said that they plan to refocus on bringing games the the PS3 and the 360, since their casual market on the Wii and DS isn’t doing as great as it once was. Also, there’s rumors of Assassin’s Creed II getting multiplayer DLC, or was it the next Assassin’s Creed… Or maybe it was a completely different game now… There seems to be a lot of confusion with this rumor, so I will just leave it at that.
So you may finally have an excuse to dust off your Wii this Spring (or not, if you have a PS3 or 360 connected to your TV). Netflix has just set up a page on their website telling you to reserve your instant streaming discs for the Wii, they will ship to you in the mail “this Spring”, no solid release date was given. The disc is free like the PS3 disc is, so if you have a Netflix account and are interested, go reserve one.
Just a reminder that Netflix plans to integrate their service into the PlayStation 3 and perhaps the Nintendo Wii after the agreement with Microsoft, which currently disallows Netflix integration on other gaming consoles other than the Xbox 360 for a certain period of time. A Netflix representative also promises, “The Wii will have the same titles as all Netflix ready devices and a similar, easy and fast disc-based experience as the PS3.”
EA CEO, John Riccitiello has announced yesterday that many highly anticipated titles should be released in EA’s fiscal year 2011, which if from April 1, 2010 to March 30, 2011, don’t worry, you probably won’t have to wait a little more than a year for most of the games he brought up, most of the following games will probably release in Fall/Winter of this year, or even earlier (some release dates of these games may fall into the release date pattern of past games in the series).
He mentioned that in between April 1, 2010 to March 30, 2011 you should expect to see games on store shelves like the upcoming Medal of Honor, a “revitalized” Need for Speed (the one supposedly being made by Criterion Games), The Sims on Console, “an innovative and new take” on Madden, Crysis 2 (now coming on PC, PS3, 360), Dead Space 2, the next FIFA, a new MMA game, and “many others”. Get your wallets ready!
The first PlayStation Store Update for 2010 in Europe brings some good content your way, look out for some new demos, heaps of add-on content, special offers, and much, much more. The list of full content can be found after the break.
