2012 Game Developer Choice Awards Nominations

2012 Game Developer Choice Awards Nominations

The Game Developer Choice Awards is probably the best award show in gaming.  It’s an honor for a developer to earn an award because the voting is done entirely by their peers.  Some of 2011′s biggest games will be on display like Skyrim and Uncharted, but smaller download only Bastion has also earned five nominations.  In addition to the actual video game awards, the GDCA also recognizes important people in the industry with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Pioneer Award, and the Ambassador Award.  This will be the 12th annual GDC Award ceremony being held in San Francisco March 7, 2012.

2012 Possibly The Most Exciting Year in Gaming This Generation, Here’s Why

2012 Possibly The Most Exciting Year in Gaming This Generation, Here’s Why

So 2012 is starting up and we already have a pretty awesome list of announced games and hardware, the funny thing is, half of the games set to release this year probably aren’t even announced yet and 2012 already looks like the most exciting year for gaming this generation, just with the games announced!

The reason for it is simple actually, unlike the last several years, developers aren’t just shoving out sequel, sequel, sequel and doing nothing to really change the experience in that series much, what developers seem to be finally doing now is either make a sequel, or reboot a franchise, but drastically change how it’s played, or they’re making new IP’s, what’s exciting about this year is that developers are finally delving into unfamiliar waters more than ever, which is one huge factor among many others that is making this year so exciting. Here are some examples -

DLB’s App Pick of the Week: NFL FLICK Quarterback

DLB’s App Pick of the Week: NFL FLICK Quarterback

I feel that the NFL Flick Quarterback app is a well put together football experience for all iOS/Android devices. It has all the official NFL Teams, and logos.

You start by creating a player, choosing a skin tone and a team. Like with most games when you start off it takes you through a tutorial showing you how to play the game. The controls work perfect on all iOS and touch screen devices. Swipe left and right to make the quarterback (QB) look in that direction, flick forward to pass the ball and swipe across the body of the QB real fast to juke making defenders miss that are trying to tackle you.

The just of the game is you playing the QB position and passing the ball to your wide receiver with out getting it intercepted, dropped,or sacked. The game is really fun and straight to the point. Check it.

Zipper Shows More of Their Vita Game – Unit 13

Zipper Interactive, the makers of SOCOM, are hard at work on creating a Vita game called “Unit 13″, which mainly focuses on instantly jumping in and quickly playing a few rounds on the go, it’s a social-heavy shooter, constantly keeping you updated on what your friends are up to in the game along with allowing you to play a friend in a co-op game at certain instanced too. Here’s a quick rundown of a few things seen in this game in a new video below.

The game is due to release “sometime around the launch of the Vita” … Instead of having traditional single-player and multiplayer aspects that most shooter games does, this game does it a little different, it gives always changing objectives for you to do with different scenarios, this supposedly makes the game very replayable. You’re able to play with a friend through co-op or by yourself. They say you can’t play co-op over 3G (only Wi-Fi) but you can get friend statistics and updates though. The game looks interesting nonetheless and should feel familiar to a usual Zipper Interactive game.

Let’s Talk Playstation Plus & PS+ GIVEAWAY

Before you get reading this is a new segment that I’ve been wanting to bring to the site in an effort to bring more original content to the site.  I do have a video version of Let’s Talk on my personal YouTube channel, but in between work and my microphone breaking I haven’t been able to make any videos in a while.  ”Let’s Talk” is a series mostly where I express my opinions about pretty much anything, but the stuff you would see on the site would be about gaming.  I would like to make this a weekly segment, but only if I get enough feedback from you guys.  So please leave a comment below.

THE RUMORS

Before E3 2010 rumors were going around that Sony was going to start a new subscription service for the Playstation Network.  While the rumors were eventually true many people were concerned that Sony was going to start charging people to be able to play online.  Thankfully at E3 2010 Jack Tretton took the stage and announce that Playstation Plus was going to be a membership service that would give users exclusive features, free games, themes, early beta access, full game trials, and avatars.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance VGA 2011 Trailer

When Metal Gear Solid: Rising was announced it had the tagline of “Lightning Bolt Action” and was supposed to be a filler between MGS2:Sons of Liberty and MGS4:Guns of the Patriots.  Since then the name was changed and development has now been taken over by Platinum Games as the game has shifted to what looks to be a hack and slash adventure title.  To me it doesn’t feel like a Metal Gear title and the only thing “Metal Gear” about it Vamp and Raiden.  I’ll hold out on passing judgement until more information is revealed about the game, but  I really want to see what you guys think so please leave a comment below.  Metal Gear Rising:Revengeance will be released next year for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
