Developers, Stop Playing it Safe With Franchises & Use The “3 Game Rule”

Developers, Stop Playing it Safe With Franchises & Use The “3 Game Rule”

Many gamers hate it, the milking of a gaming franchise, especially if it’s their favorite franchises. Many developers, especially this generation are making sequel after sequel now, usually without any noticeable innovation, or just too many games year after year. Notice that many games are hitting title number 2 or title number 3 now, and as we’ve seen from many games (Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy), sequels aren’t bad under certain instances, but some developers just have to know when to call it quits. It’s simple, make three games in a franchise, then stop all development of that entire franchise, sounds like a daring move? It’s gonna be better for everyone in the long-run though, here’s why.

Resistance: Burning Skies Release Date Announced

Resistance: Burning Skies Release Date Announced

Resistance: Burning skies is one of those big PlayStation Vita games to launch on the system this year and the release date has finally been announced during the Official PlayStation Blog Q&A today, the game will be hitting shelves on May 29th, 2012.

The release date here was most likely the US release date since it is on a Tuesday (North American games usually release every Tuesday), as for the European release date, you can probably expect it later that week as usual. Don’t take my word for it though until it’s official!

The Vita has several other games (like the Killzone game) that has not had an official release announcement yet, so hopefully we will get those soon, along with some new IP’s that get announced too! Even though PS3 favorites are nice, this is after all a different console and should have different experiences.

Let’s Talk PlayStation Vita

Let’s Talk PlayStation Vita

Hey guys, Dj Dynasty here with another episode Let’s Talk.  Yeah it’s been about a month since I did the first Let’s Talk, but my life has been busy and I really haven’t had time to do anything creative.  Now that I have a bit more free time I will make an effort to write a new article that will be out every Thursday, and the video version will on my channel the following Saturday.  Above all I really want to see those comments below the post agree/disagree the site gets a decent amount of traffic so please register if your not already and comment away.

This week’s topic is the upcoming PlayStation Vita.  I’ve had a chance to go to my local Gamestop to see the handheld for myself.  I have to admit I was really impressed with the device.  The rest of the article is after the jump.

2012 Possibly The Most Exciting Year in Gaming This Generation, Here’s Why

2012 Possibly The Most Exciting Year in Gaming This Generation, Here’s Why

So 2012 is starting up and we already have a pretty awesome list of announced games and hardware, the funny thing is, half of the games set to release this year probably aren’t even announced yet and 2012 already looks like the most exciting year for gaming this generation, just with the games announced!

The reason for it is simple actually, unlike the last several years, developers aren’t just shoving out sequel, sequel, sequel and doing nothing to really change the experience in that series much, what developers seem to be finally doing now is either make a sequel, or reboot a franchise, but drastically change how it’s played, or they’re making new IP’s, what’s exciting about this year is that developers are finally delving into unfamiliar waters more than ever, which is one huge factor among many others that is making this year so exciting. Here are some examples -

PS4: Facts, Rumors, and Speculation

PS4: Facts, Rumors, and Speculation

The PS3 has been a wonderful “gaming” machine, serving our gaming, multimedia, and social needs for the past 5 years.   One minute you can be getting your K/D ratio up in a round of Call of Duty MW3, the next wandering around the much-looked-over social app, Home, and the next minute you could be watching that new Blu Ray movie your family just bought.  Yes, for all the hype, disappointments, awesome exclusives, and expensive price tags associated with this machine, the PS3, I believe, has done Sony proud so far–and will probably continue to do so in the foreseeable future.    With the advent of firmware updates on the PS3, Sony can keep it around for at least 5 more years or as long as the market produces demand.   (See PS2)

While the PS3 has served us great these past few years, being a self-proclaimed “tech head”, I can’t help but wonder (and speculate) about the PS3′s successor: the PlayStation 4 (or so I hope it’s called that.   See: Japanese superstition regarding the number 4.   lol)   I’d like to spend a little time discussing four simple, but important, topics regarding the PS4:

1) The Hardware   2) The Software    3) Connectivity    4) Price/Release Time

Rumor: Sony Fighting Game in the Works

Rumor: Sony Fighting Game in the Works

Hey guys hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving weekend eating and getting some deals on Black Friday.  Rumors have been flying around that SuperBot Entertainment is developing a fighting game featuring many of Sony’s first party mascots. Titled/Code Named “Title Fight” Paul Gale Network reported that the game would feature Nathan Drake, Sweet Tooth, Killzone’s Colonel Radec, Fat Princess, Kratos, Sly Cooper and Parappa the Rappa.

The game supposedly assigns character’s weight classes i.e. Fat Princess would be a slower mover than Sly Cooper.  A SuperBot level designer mentioned that the “Michael” commercial vaguely foreshadowed his studio’s game.

Playstation Celebrates You

Remember that trailer that Sony released about a week ago?  Everyone and their mother’s dog was taking guesses at what it was and what it meant exactly.  that trailer released a few days ago got a considerable amount of traffic, nearly 2.4 million views on only a few days. Just several more thousand views and that makes it PlayStation’s most watched YouTube video on their YouTube channel. Well, the continuation to that trailer is out now and it turns out it’s a continuation of the Long Live Play marketing campaign.  Although it’s not the home revamp, XMB redesign, cross game chat, or Playstation Smash Bros it’s still pretty cool.

I’ve spotted

  • Nathan Drake – Uncharted Series
  • Lightning – Final Fantasy XIII and XII-2
  • Cole McGrath – Infamous series
  • Isaac Clarke – Dead Space
  • Ghost – MW2
  • Hitman guy forgot his name :P
  • Sweet tooth – Twisted Metal Series
  • Joe Mauer –  MLB The Show
  • Old/Solid Snake – Metal Gear Solid Series
  • Chell – Portal 2
  • Sackboy –  Little Big Planet Series
  • Athena & Kratos – God of War Series
  • Helghast Soldiers – Killzone Series
  • Chimera – Resistance Series
  • USC Football Player – NCAA Football
  • Omaha Soldiers – Medal of Honor Series/Call of Duty possibly
  • Bioshock Girl – Bioshock Series
  • Ezio – Assassin’s Creed Series

If you spot anything else leave a comment below.  Also i’m fairly sure that Nolan North who played Nathan Drake and David Hayter who played Old Snake in this short film reprise their roles.  The same goes for Cole McGrath, Athena, Ghost, and ISA Soldier, but i’m not sure.
