Evolution of the Controller

Hello fellow gamers, today I talk  about the evolution of the video game controller. The controller has been a substantial part of the video game industry. From a joystick and one button, to a joypad and two buttons, and the list goes on and on.

Now that it’s 2013 and we are on the brink of seeing new next-gen consoles, Xbox and PlayStation, are we expecting these two companies to stay the same when it comes to the controller? Like most of y’all, I would like to see the same form factor. With previews consoles being shown before the release, the controller was a major factor, showing some ugly prototypes that never saw the light of day. Now, what if Xbox/Sony want to put out new controllers with their new next gen consoles like the Wii U has done with a game-pad? Is it time for the next-gen consoles to take a page from Nintendo’s book and put out a new kind of gamepad/controller? If that does happen, will previous console controllers be backwards compatible a good thing. Maybe they’ll even go proprietary, forcing us to buy new Accessories to use for these new next-gen consoles.
Steps in new controller design

1) Sleek design
2) No new buttons except for existing ones
3) Do not add new buttons/Touchscreen to make it even harder for people to play
4) Rechargeable battery installed/Charge wire being proprietary to every system

If I were to back you up Damian I sure as hell would like to see and use that boomerang controller SONY had back at E3 2005. I think a lot of people knocked it because they didn’t see it used by someone and just pics that made it seem weird. If SONY and Microsoft don’t go the wii U route with a screen then I’m praying SONY gives us a try with the boomerang but also allow us to still use DS3 with the PS4.

Microsoft ain’t changing shit. It took them a whole console generation to make a decent (rip off of Sega Dreamcast) controller.
