PlayStation 4 “Orbis” Rumors Surface
We’re nearing the end of the console cycle, and what would be a successful end without a huge set of rumors about the next console? Kotaku is now claiming a “reliable source” that “has shared correct information with them before” is giving them the tip about Sony’s upcoming console – the PlayStation 4, codenamed “Orbis,” which is supposed to release around Christmas time of next year.
The name “Orbis” means circle, or orbit in Latin, kinda like the Vita means “life” in Latin. (Kotaku said Orbis Vita in Latin means “circle of life” – coincidence? Who knows). Like the Vita though, Orbis could be the final name of the PlayStation 4, but something tells me that’s not gonna happen. However the SCE dev site responds when “Orbis” is put into the URL and does not respond when “PS4″ is put into the URL, so that’s pretty interesting, I remember something similar happening with the Vita if I’m not mistaken.
Some temporary specs the “source” said was currently in the next PlayStation is an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU. The GPU is said to be capable of 4096×2160 resolution and displaying 3D at 1080p. Developers have already been getting their dev kits in January for the PS4 says the source.
You may have to keep your PS3′s if you wanna play PS3 games still after PS4 releases, they say no backwards capadibility at all this time, Sony won’t even be wasting their time now with the whole thing it seems. Used games are also gonna suck on the PS4, also much rumored to be on the next Xbox (codenamed “Durango”) is an anti-used game measure on the system having your purchased retail games on in store or PSN where they must be locked to a specific PSN account and it will be like the PC where you have to be logged online to play them. So no more annoying online passes, but…. ehhh…
Keep in mind that this is all rumors and none of this should at all be taken seriously until confirmed by Sony. (Even though Sony’s rumors over the past year have been pretty accurate).

I am against used games, gamestop and everything that hurts video game developers. It’s about time that people should see that a lot of people are losing their jobs, game studios are closing because the money invested to make their games are not coming back to them. Instead, it goes straight to used game sales. Gamestop, is destroying the industry. I also hope that if they are fighting the used game market, they should lower the price of games as well. 50€ for a Xbox360/PS3 game, 30-40€ for a PS Vita game. 50€ is a whole day of hard labour. Gaming should never be a luxury but an affordable form of entertainment.

@Daemlord.
How is gamestop hurting the gaming industry? I think they’re helping it cause there are some games I wouldn’t even buy or try playing if I didn’t get it used for cheap. You say people are losing jobs in the gaming industry but gamestop is creating jobs for some people. Why is it ok to buy used cars but not used video games? A new car is too expensive so I buy used just like $65 with tax for a video game is too expensive I buy used games on craigslist or gamestop.

The system is not balance. You buy a used car because you can’t afford the new one. I bought a 8000€ (Hyundai) car new. Rather than paying 8000€ for a used BMW. Games are so expensive, so we are forced to buy them used. But if you look at it as a consumer you will never see how developers, publishers to retailers spread the 60€ of 65$ you spend to buy their game or product. We could only argue here but, hell. What can we do about it? Nothing. We just do what we can do. Deal with it. As what we do on our everyday lives. I earn 1100€ a month. With that money here where I live, you can’t buy shit . Maybe in the future I will not be gaming anymore, for I wont be able to afford even used games.

I probably wouldn’t even buy the next gen of systems if the games are any more expensive. If the games are locked to specific account that’s even worse I can’t let my cousin or friend borrow my game cause they would need my psn account info on they’re system, talk about hurting the gaming industry.

@Daemlord
I see your side of the argument but I don’t feel bad that 1 million MW3 used copies are circulating around and the developers don’t see any profit of that second sale, cause they’ve already sold like 10 million copies. Other games might not sell as much but they don’t spend as much creating the game either. Screw the gaming industry they’re the only business that complains about recycling a product, I just traded in some of my son’s baseball gear that he out grown and got other used gear, why buy brand new when used in most cases is just as good.

All I know is I love my PS3 and if they don’t decide to continue B/C on the PS4 its fine with me. I hope the PS4 launches at $299.
