Goodbye PSN Accounts, Hello SEN Accounts!
What,What….What. Yes say goodbye to PSN accounts and say hello to SEN (Sony Entertainment Network) accounts! An email from sony has confirmed that PSN accounts will be renamed to ‘Sony Entertainment Network’ or SEN accounts with the next software update due out on February 8th. To not stir up any confusion, Sony vaguely worded this thing, but it seems that the PlayStation Network (the name of the service) going nowhere and staying as it is, but your PSN ACCOUNT info will simply be renamed and merged with Sony Entertainment Network, so make your online Sony accounts more unified and easier (kinda like an Apple ID). Click read more to see the email.
This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network.” This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

The article clearly states PSN is not changing their name though, this is a simple account name change, nothing is happening to the PSN service name, the PlayStation Network will stay, Sony is just making an “Apple ID” type unified account system for all of their online services.

that makes no sense so the online part is psn but your signing into SEN which is the same thing….

It is basically the same thing if you are strictly a PSN user, but if you use multiple Sony online services (Music Unlimited, Movies Unlimited, PlayStation Network, etc..) it would make more sense to do it this way because instead of using 3 different usernames & password for those 3 services I listed above, you’re only using one username & password, it’s a very small and insignificant change really, and many journalists misread it and blew this information to “the end of PSN” – lol, this is not the case.

@Machee
When will you learn?? haha
On topic, this is all part of Sony’s future plans to unify all their services into one. You’ll be able to log in on their TVs and other devices using the same username and password you do on your PS3 and PS Vita. It just makes good sense.

Never Mind Machee and his argument inducing comments

I agree with BlindMango 1000% good way to explain it to everyone nice and simple who just read the headline and panic like babies.

lol at how this news came right after Kaz was announced to be CEO. I agree the name is not as catchy as PSN but i see what the are doing in trying to make a universal account for everything sony to make it a bit easier.
Now the question goes does it make it easier for hackers to get access to EVERYTHING?

This was announced a while ago they just put it into affect now. It made perfect sense and shouldn’t have shocked anyone that they would make the reform when Kaz was handed power.
