Modern Warfare 3 Surpasses $1 Billion in Sales
Activision/Blizzard has announced that the hit FPS Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 3 has made $1 Billion in sales. MW3 only took 16 days to reach the milestone while it’s Infinity Ward predecessor MW2 achieved the same feat in 60 days. This isn’t just a record for gaming, but it’s also a record in the entire entertainment industry as 2009′s box office hit Avatar made just as much in 17 days. Activision/Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick commented
“Modern Warfare 3, and other games by us, have a much broader appeal than they have had in the past, with the social nature of the game offering a different type of interactive experience that has not existed before…” – Robert Kotick
The Call of Duty is probably the biggest name in the entertainment industry. That said it doesn’t look like the franchise is going away anytime soon as every year it seems to shatter sales records.

wow good job. MW4 will do the same thing as well as Black Ops 2 or whatever they call it.

Such a sad deal, but CoD, despite not innovating or improving the engine at all, still outsells everything. There were so many other much better games that came out in 2011 that I hope people didn’t overlook. Portal 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, InFamous 2, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, etc. etc. And, I personally believe Battlefield to be a much better franchise. The realism and sound just cannot be beaten. The rat-in-a-maze shoot, kill, die, rinse, repeat gameplay of CoD has just gotten me bored to death. I wish I hadn’t bought MW3 to be quite honest. I’ll still play CoD4 from time to time, but even that (being the best CoD game in the last few years) has me bored.
Activision needs to think long and hard when they start releasing CoD games on the PS4 and XBox 720 and figure out a way to make them feel fresh and new, and not the same game on the same engine we’ve played for 6+ years.

I agree with you Blumatt but congrats to infinity ward nonetheless and thank you Activision for not being pricks or cry babies by putting a game pass in the case. I look at it like this the more they continue to slaughter the competition the faster the other games that launch around it will drop in sales and I’ll pick up a $60 game for $30 (I’m looking at you RAGE). As far as next gen COD don’t hope too hard Blumatt the only thing they need to do is add better graphics and full destructible environments and COD will hit the TRILLION mark (joking).
The greatest thing the COD franchise has done this gen is shut those fucking master chief dick sucking XBOTS up. For that I am soooooooo grateful this series came out.
