Let’s Talk Playstation Plus & PS+ GIVEAWAY

14. December, 2011 Articles, PS3, PSN 3 comments

Before you get reading this is a new segment that I’ve been wanting to bring to the site in an effort to bring more original content to the site.  I do have a video version of Let’s Talk on my personal YouTube channel, but in between work and my microphone breaking I haven’t been able to make any videos in a while.  ”Let’s Talk” is a series mostly where I express my opinions about pretty much anything, but the stuff you would see on the site would be about gaming.  I would like to make this a weekly segment, but only if I get enough feedback from you guys.  So please leave a comment below.

Before E3 2010 rumors were going around that Sony was going to start a new subscription service for the Playstation Network.  While the rumors were eventually true many people were concerned that Sony was going to start charging people to be able to play online.  Thankfully at E3 2010 Jack Tretton took the stage and announce that Playstation Plus was going to be a membership service that would give users exclusive features, free games, themes, early beta access, full game trials, and avatars.

Read the rest after the jump.

If your a long time Playstation fan like myself you were probably a bit cautious before signing up for Playstation Plus.  Qore, which for some reason is still around, was also supposed to offer “premium” features like betas, demos, and discounts.  With that in mind I signed up for the 3 month package which was $17.99, so even if the service was bad I wouldn’t be left with a year subscription wondering why I wasted my time.

Now it’s been a year and 6 months and i’m still a member of Playstation Plus.  The free games have been absolutely great.  Over my subscription I’ve recieved great PSN games like Shatter, Stacking, Zen Pinball, Castle Crashers, and Plants vs. Zombies.  Not to metion ps1 classics like Warahawk, Spyro Series, Crash Bandicoot Series, and the Resident Evil, Series.  The discounts have also been nice as some DLC and full games get discounts when they release.  Features have been added only for plus members like automatic updates, and cloud storage for game saves.  I could not be happier with my subscription to Playstation Plus, but the reason why is that I never really got into downloadable games.  That said I could also see why a person who downloads games from the Playstation Store regularly would be unsatisfied with the content available.  Playstation Plus isn’t for that person, but if you don’t download many games from the Playstation Store it’s a great way to play new games that you probably wouldn’t have played otherwise.

Now for the free 30 day subscription so one of you can try PS+ out.  First answer this Assassin’s Creed trivia question.

What famous video game reference does Mario Auditore say when he introduces himself to Ezio?

The winner will get a 30 day PS+ code that I received from SCEA.  I’ll send the code to the winner via message.  Just put your PSN ID after your answer.

I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon. and here, at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit for a message that eludes my understanding. Who are we, who have been so blessed to share our stories like this? To speak across centuries? Maybe you will answer all the questions I have asked. Maybe you will be the one to make all this suffering worth something in the end.

I got a 1 year subscription after the 1 month trial offered by Sony, when they got hacked.
Before that time,I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to subscribe.but when the trial finished, I was really happy with the service.
So far, its been great being a psn+ user. I got many games, for free.I got big discounts on small games / minis, and even full boxed games were much cheaper.I was able to buy games like Deus ex revolution, for a fraction of the full price. I got motorstorm apocalypse for about 20$, a game I had skipped when it was released, because there was too many other games releasing in the same week / month. I couldn’t believe when I saw it, on the psn, at that price.
At the beginning, there was only a couple of boxed games available on the psn. But the list is increasing really fast, and I think only the disc size will be a problem: so far,the games I bought were smaller than 10Gb in space, example, motorstorm apocalypse was around 7 Gb. I don’t think we will see games like gt5, which weights about 20 gb, or god of war 3, 2 times bigger. Who knows, by the time the PS4 will be here, maybe someone will invent some magical compression algorithm, for internet, and we will all have 100mb adsl lines. Who knows if we will be able to download God of War 3, and play it on the Ps4,upscaled to 4k resolution, thanks to our little 65″ 4k TV.
Like Kevin Butler said on the Move advertising: “future is great” :)
