MW3 Premium Service Announced, Multiplayer Still Free

So one of the largest gaming franchises in the world who pulls in piles of money with each game release each year has decided to offer…. a premium paying service. Well, everyone knew it was coming I suppose so here it is. Titled Call of Duty: Elite, the service will add a “premium layer” of content to the Modern Warfare 3 experience. It will not, however, charge at all for online multiplayer gaming.

Some aspects of Call of Duty: Elite are said to be free for all players like a social networking tool that will be available on the game. Seen in the trailer above, the service looks pretty extensive and detailed, but does it need a monthly subscription to be supported? Activision says it does to support certain operations of the service, they say the service will be less than Netflix’s lowest rental package ($8 a month) but that’s still a ton of money to shell out for a single game in your library, not to mention that the map packs will most likely be a separate charge of $15 upon release even if you are a subscriber of this service. Luckily if it’s too costly, you wont have to sign-up for it, I personally don’t see many people subscribing for this, only if they are serious and, well, elite players.

The one saving grace of all this is that they’re not charging for online play, because, had they done that, alot of people would have moved on to other [better] games. However, if I do decide to get MW3, I’m not getting this. I’m not paying a monthly fee to see people’s stats and talk to them, when I can do that for free. lol
