When Valve said that the PS3 version of Portal 2 would be superior to the 360 version, they weren’t lying! Valve was recently able to finally confirm that Portal 2′s online features will be cross-play through Steam with the PS3, PC, and Mac all connected so gamers on the PC can actually play with PSN users, for example. This is huge as I don’t believe it has ever been done before.
Valve also confirmed persistent cloud based PS3 save data storage along with communication through steam within all systems. PS3 physical copies of Portal 2 will also have “Steam Play”, which is apparently a code that gives you a key to download the Mac and PC version of Portal 2 off of the Steam Store! Valve also plans to push the Steam features to future games later down the line too.
“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product … Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases,” stated Gabe Newell, head of Valve.
Look out for portal 2 on April 18th in North America and Europe on April 22nd!
