It has been reported a few times over the past week that there had been whispers of Michael Jordan being approached by 2k Games to be the cover athlete for NBA 2k 11. It has now been confirmed! It will be interesting to see how Michael Jordan will affect everything from the sales of the game, future NBA titles, and how he will be as a playable character. This also continues an interesting trend developing where publishers are turning to retired hall of fame players over current sports stars.
CNBC had the opportunity to speak with Jordan and 2k Games about the announcement. Jordan’s last appearance in a video game was in 2004, but it looks like that will be changing. Here is what Jordan had to say about the announcement:
“It’s an honor to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11,” Jordan said, in a statement. “I have no doubt that NBA 2K11 will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the court, virtually.”
Neither party went into detail on how Jordan will be involved in the game; however this does look like a confirmation that he will be playable in some form.
Just as i was falling away from NBA titles, due to the repetiveness and lack of improvements, i may be intrested again. Maybe 2k Games will do something special with this title, its about time to really upgrade the series. The NBA 2k series has always been the better basketball video game compared to EA’s NBA LIVE (Now name changed to NBA ELITE.) However, things have been starting to change. I look forward to seeing more this year, i can’t wait.
