UPDATE: PSN Server Problems (NOW FIXED)

article-image

UPDATE: Sony has now confirmed that they have fixed the problems and you are now able to safely get back on your PS3, it seems there was a mix-up with fat PS3′s and the leap year that wasn’t occurring on the slim models, which threw the clock out of whack.

————————————-

From Sony regarding the recent PSN issues:

“We are aware that some users are experiencing error code 8001050F and a network connection failure when signing on to PlayStation Network. Those of you with the newer, “slim” PS3s (120GB/250GB) seem to be unaffected.

We are currently working to restore service as a matter of priority and will update with further information as necessary.  We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Keep an eye on our Twitter account, where we’ll be updating you on the situation as often as possible.”

UPDATE: After the break, you will see further details about the issues and what’s planned to be done with them.

“As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.”

Yeah i heard about this. Is it also true that people cant load up any games from the hard drive, or even some disc based games ? and also that if you load a game with trophies enabled, you lose your trophys for that game ?

Im not sure that ( ^ ^ ^ ) is all true, but you never know. Im too scared to turn my ps3 on now lol :P

Also, i wonder why its only the fat models that are affected … Perhaps some sort of scam to get people to buy the slim models ? hmmm …

  4. Luckily, I didn’t play my PS3 when I first got home but instead found this on the news first. I wonder if Sony is going to pay for damages or if it’s only if your under warranty. Either way I’m seeing somebody get a lawsuit.

The writing makes it sound like the DLB network is responsible for playstation.

well im one of the lucky ones, i have the fat ps3 the 80gb not the one that plays ps2 games. i have not encountered any kind of problems with network or trophies. still that really sucks.
