Something That Needs To Be Said

My God, where do I start… for the past few months the site has not been running like clockwork, many of you complain on and on about what’s wrong about this site day after day, my question is don’t you guys sit and think what may actually be going on behind the scenes? I guess I will have to tell each and every one of you myself.

One thing is Machee and all these other people, why block them? They are allowed to speak their mind even if it’s mostly nonsense. If you don’t like what they’re saying, THUMB THEM DOWN AND IGNORE WHAT THEY SAY, do not reply to them, ignore them. The forums have been down for more than a month now and Clewis and DLB has constantly been trying to fix it which isn’t exactly the easiest thing in the world. I know the forums are great but they will eventually be up soon, have patience.

And of course, the podcast, used to be up every weekend right? Now not so much, sorry for that incontinence, I know the podcast is something that is truly great on our site, for the past few months we mostly have not been able to put them up because we have had bandwidth problems with the podcast, no podcast in three weeks is correct, last week was not recorded because DLB was moving, the week before that one was recorded but thanks to bandwidth problems and recent busyness, DLB has not been able to put it up, the week before that Skype was constantly messing up. We are running into problems and we can’t just as easily pull hundreds of dollars out of our pockets as easily as you’d think.

To end it, everyone who works on this site has a deep passion for gaming, as big as they did years back when they started this site but when times get on, life sometimes gets harder and don’t ever think people don’t put 100% in this site, especially DLB, who has two jobs, a pregnant wife, and in-between all that a site he cares for spending hundreds on it a year and devoting his time on the podcast every week. Sometimes stuff happens, stuff we wouldn’t usually want to happen but we will eventually get through it, this is still a blog, this isn’t the most visited site on the internet, this isn’t our job so DO NOT expect us to run like a clockwork 24/7, you’re lucky to have things like a podcast and DLBTV on this site, especially when some more popular sites don’t even have those luxuries, even if they aren’t as frequent right now.

To the community, you are the great community I enjoy posting for every day, this entire community is special in my eyes, something you don’t see on many other sites. It’s what gets me to spend so much of my time on this one site. Hell, demanding too sometimes, but that’s just it, you guys need to consider what’s going on too.  You compare us to these big sites with different situations than ours, we’re building this site from the ground up here, no help, no assistance so just please understand that managing and working for a gaming site is harder than it sounds.

I’ve felt like this has needed to be said a while ago and now that you guys hopefully know more about the whole situation, I see what you guys want every single day, the podcast, more staff members to contribute, etc… but It’s hardest now for all the staff than it’s ever been and probably will ever be and you guys just gotta have more understanding.  I know some people completely understood already and thanks but now hopefully everyone does.

If you’ve got something to add, tell us and maybe I can answer it.

To be honest Mango an explanation shouldn’t be needed! The people that come to this site for the most part know the folks running the show here are average joes who obviously have a passion for gaming but also have personal lives that need tending to, that’s one of the main reasons I come hear. Those that complain have nothing better to do with their lives then to sit in front of a moniter all day looking for things to complain about.

I personally don’t listen to the podcast just simply cause I’ve never really been into them, here or anywhere. I however enjoy reading the articles posted and the comments. Sometimes the pointless comments irritate me so I just skim through them but most times I just get a kick out of them.

As I said an explanation imo isn’t needed, maybe appreciated by some. Either way the folks complaining and saying they are going somewhere else for their gaming news would have done so eventually anyway but I think the majority are willing to wait for the little things. A busy life is a busy life and certain obligations take priorty over others, family always comes first.

Theres a differnce between playing games passion and running a gamming site passion. But whatever, I hope everything comes together soon and machee migrates to TheBitBag where he belongs.

i dont comment anymore due to the irrating, childish people who do comment (no names needed). But i view the site everyday to check to see if any new articles have been put up. Blingo is right aswell about people ignoring immature comments. If you think something that somone has said is stupid just thumbs down it and comment yourself on the article not on what they said.

    @ BlindMango

Thank you for explaining the situation to everyone. I did not need an explanation, however, many gamers do and for that, I am grateful. The fact that you took time out to acknowledge this issue is confirmation that you agree something needed to be said (i.e., explained).

Furthermore, several posters have begun coming to this site recently, however, I, like many others have been here before this site was even created. You know, back in the Myspace days. Therefore, when we comment, our commentaries are valid because we were around when this whole dream began and we have a realistic picture of the whole story. For example, I remember when DLB’s love for the PS3 was enduring; so much so, he started a blog about it which he defended for a whole year. However, newcomers to the site will not know this and think that he is a 360 “fanboy”. Clearly, their assessment would not be accurate becomes they do not know the whole story.

Additionally, this site traffic has picked up significantly and as a result, the podcast exploded. That is great for the site, but not so great for DLB’s wallet. In a previous post, I urged DLB to prepare (i.e., anticipate) for a situation like this so that he would not be caught off guard, and I actually called him unprofessional for not foreseeing this. At the time DLB felt I was overly critical, but in hindsight, I wish he would have taken my advice. Obviously, if he would have, DLB-Network.com would not be experiencing the many impatient gamers they now have. But, what is in the past is the past, and we must move beyond that.

My suggestion is simply this, whatever amount of blogging you can do, whatever amount of video reviews you do, whatever amount of technology post you can do, whatever amount of podcast you can do, and whatever amount of money you can pay, pay that and do that and nothing more. Do what you can comfortably afford to pay and comfortably afford to do. But, whatever you do, DO THE BEST YOU CAN.

Always remember, it’s not what you have, it’s what you do with what you have….

A passion for gaming is a passion for gaming. The only difference is in how you show it.

    @Christendom:
I remember the Myspace days, wasn’t that long ago. Now although I agree with some of what you say I disagree on what commentaries are or aren’t valid. Those that come here and post nonsense that has nothing to do with the article they’re commenting under are posting invalid comments. Just because we’ve been around since Myspace doesn’t make our comments anymore valid then those that have followed since.

If this site was run right there wouldn’t be so many complaints. I only come to this website for the pocast and half the time I don’t even get to listen to one because there isn’t one. I don’t care if no one get’s paid to post news or do the podcast, the whole dlb crew volunteered to do what they do for the website if you want to get paid for it go apply for IGN or some big site that pays. There are alot of small sites that are always on point and consistant this site isn’t one of them.

I’m done with my bitching now, give me a thumbs DOWN I really Don’t give a Fuck!!!
