SEGA to Launch Affordable Console With Motion Controls

Thanks Private Skittles & Brown856!

SEGA will soon be releasing a new console that uses motion control, only for the UK at the moment, the console will be called the Sega Zone (called the Zone 40 at the moment but soon to be re-branded as the Sega Zone). This system will be in no way intended to compete with the 360, PS3, or Wii but will be a console that will come packaged with 20 classic SEGA Games already in the system. 30 new games will also come with the system and 16 of which can be played with the two motion controllers that are packeged with the device.

The Sega Zone will release in April with all 50 games inside the system and the two motion controllers for about £50 in the UK.

Whens the last time you got a system with “2″ controllers!!!!!!!! Wow I think it was SNES if I’m not mistaken. They even give you 50 games to play in total. Nice package for the rough economy we are in.

this looks like its gonna b more of a toy then a console. cheap parents that dont kno what theyre doing will buy it. the games will prob b the equivalent to a super cheap super cheezy wii game wth bad motion detection.

look at the price, u kno they didnt put much time into development. id be surprised if this lasts very long

didnt sega go bankrupt or something after dreamcast(to this day one of my fav systems)

Well you all know that Sega and Sony are scratching each others backs right?

The Sega Dreamcast was basically the blueprint for the PS3 I mean look at the two systems and look at the features. The dreamcast was under rated and could have been a major competitor if it wasn’t shadowed by the Sony Vs. Microsoft War LOL.

The Zone 40 by Sega is an okay idea, even though the only people who are really going to buy it are old school gamers longing for yesteryear.

However, the Dreamcast was ahead of it’s time. Its too bad that such an awesome system got overlooked by the mainstream market. I hope this doesn’t happen to the PS3 because like the Sega Dreamcast, it is ahead of it’s time a well.

Naw I don’t think the PS3 will end up like the dreamcast, I think that Sony has learned from the past and is slowly putting more and more features and slowly expanding what it can do. At first when they put the PS3 out it was headed in that direction from the price range to what games it had released with it. But now they went back to the drawing board and is having the PS3 headed in the right direction.

Guys I just read on PlaystationLifestyle . com that Sonic 4 (in 2d thank goodness) is being developed on the PS3 as the lead platform and is going to be sold in Episodes via the PSN (and Xbox Live). I cannot wait for that game. I used to put mad hours in Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis. (that and NBA Jams. lol)

I believe that slow and steady can win a race, especially in a console market. However, that was the problem with the Dreamcast. It started off slow and never picked up steam. It was considered very expensive at the time, and thus, mainstream media did not want to make the leap to it’s console.

Just like the Dreamcast, the PS3 was considered very expensive with limited games, and although it was really a good value, many were unwillingly to make the leap. Of course it didn’t help that the PS2 is still being made with software support, and Xbox Live is a monster for online gaming.

Finally, I understand that Sony has gone back to the drawing board as you have stated, I just hope that it’s not too late. Keeping in mind that gamers are very unforgiving when it comes to playing the games they want to play right now.
