Discovered in a recent interview (in Japanese) apparently loads of content from many labyrinthine paths and dungeons in Final Fantasy XIII, simply got cut from the game. Art director Isamu Kamikokuryou has him saying that the team removed enough extra locations and content from this game to make up a WHOLE other game entirely!
“Sections cut include a secret base for Snow’s hero squad, a character’s home that included a park, and even a zoo inside one of the game’s amusement park areas.”
Considering that Square Enix said they were expecting to need 3 DVDs to hold everything that’s still in the Xbox 360 version of the game, that’s quite an impressive amount of content.
This really makes me believe this game was most likely “watered down” a fair share from when it was in development exclusively to the PS3, although Square denies it. However, despite the “content loss” as of now, many people are sure it will turn up again within the games long life-cycle as DLC or something of the sort. I’ve heard a LOT of bad reviews and thoughts about the game so far, from whats been released in Japan. I’ve heard it being too linear and other things, i wonder if this cut on content played a part in all that. I still believe the game with be a GREAT title, I’m just wondering how everything will turn out when released worldwide. What do you all think?

i agree bball, its still going to be great. but its very messed up how they cut out so much. i think just because 360′s getting it doesn’t mean they had to cut so much out i dont give a fuck how many discs it would come on you dont just cut half the game out. *sigh*, now people are going to have to buy tons of dlc to play what SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the game in the first place.

It seems like Sony could have tried harder to “in a way” counter MS “stealing” ff13′s exclusivity, by telling Square to put everything they can onto the PS3 version and just do whatever is possible or practical for the 360 (which what we have now.) OR Sony could have said put everything on the ps3 blu-ray disc and make the 360 buyers download DLC for the rest.. Either way it is how it is.

In my opinion Square Enix are idiots for telling this kind of info to anybody even if it’s in Japanese. They just basically confirmed what PS3 owners thought all long about the 360 holding back the game’s full potential. I know someone in japan who has close ties to SE and he basically said the same thing about FFXIII being “watered down” just to keep the 360 version under 3 disks. I didn’t want to believe him at the time but it’s becoming reality now. I still think FFXIII will be a good game but people will have to wait for FFXIII Versus to see the full potential of a FF game this gen. At least will we probably get a long supply of DLC.

Damn you Microsoft for not having a next gen disc media. lol I bet the 360 would’ve needed to be like 6 discs if they kept everything in. I still wish they would’ve left the content in. This new business model of taking away just to sell to you later is going to get old very quick.

The PS3 version is 37GB, with all the content removed it could’ve been more than 45GB.
Its no wonder things like towns, shops, npc’s, mini-games, hidden dungens, secret areas, huge open world to explore, etc. are non-existent in FFXIII. They want to save money on extra disks.
As a huge FF fan since the original on the NES, I can say in the bottom of my heart that square-enix is complete trash this gen

I’m shocked something like this would happen. This is a HUGE deal. FFXIII no longer day 1 purchase for me. I’ll wait till they re-release the game later on with everything on one disc.

the only reason they did that is to earn more money by putting out dlc’s. Same like bioware’s doing with dragon age. There are only 4 races and a few classes. They will bring out others in dlc just to drain out gamers pockets. In this generation of gaming. This is how publishers and developers thought out how to make their investments profitable. It’s good for them but bad for us consumers. I think that’s how the world goes. Damn corporate assholes.
