December’s NPD Numbers Are In!
Last month was December 2009, which served big sales for video game consoles and games themselves. Nintendo dominated the sales chart as usual in December selling over 3.8 million Wii’s and 3.3 million sales for the DS. Even though Nintendo had very strong sales, every other console has a significant boost in sales, both the PS3 and the 360 sold over 1.3 consoles with PS3 in third place behind Nintendo and the 360 barely in fourth, PSP and even the PS2 had a significant boost in sales. As for game sales… Well you can probably guess what sold the most this month.

i don’t think people think of wii as a gaming console. they just buy it because they can. Probably to fill up space, or maybe because the wii’s color matches their walls. Mario is just getting sad they are dragging that shit for over 10 years now and the sad thing is i am not exaggerating.

P.S. Just Imagine if Microsoft decided to make a hand-held or apple decides to make a console. The gaming market would become overcrowded in a good way.

Good to see everyone doing well. I am def. surprised the 360 got so close to the ps3 numbers without a huge game last year. I can’t wait to see this March’s NPD numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the PS3 sell nearly 2 million in March due to the lineup coming up before and during March.

why is every1 saying GOW3 will sell systems, i don’t think it will. i haven’t even played any of the gow’s. if Uncharted2 didn’t move systems, don’t expect gow3 or even gt5 to do that. the only strong franchaise sony has left is mgs and ff!

You know what! Not to take anything away from the 360 but Microsoft did ban 1,000,000 consoles back in November, so maybe that December NPD number can be misleading on the XBox 360 part.

@obiloww: What are you talking about? GOW3 will sell consoles, just because you haven’t played any previous games doesn’t make the GOW series irrelevant. Uncharted 2 is a great game but if you can’t see that more people are excited for GOW3 than any game on the PS3 console than I don’t know what so say. I know there are many 360 owners who are waiting to get a PS3 once GOW3 comes out and they wouldn’t do this for MGS, FF or any other game. Go start playing the God Of War collection to get caught up and see why it WILL be the hottest game on the PS3. The series got it’s game of year awards for a reason man.

And to the matter at hand, NPD says Wii has the best sales, congratulations and thank you Nintendo for bringing non gamer and old gamers back to playing games.
PS3 you have a slow start because of your ridiculous price and finally admitted you have a competition this gen and brand alone wont save your butt, Im proud of Sony with their exclusives, free PSN, and have stepped up a bit and swallowed their pride to finally lower the PS3 price just have Jack Tretton shut up with his 10 year cycle because its bullshit and i fucking hate him.
360, thank you for bring online gaming to console and perfecting it. Without your push and drive to the console market, Sony or Wii won’t step up to their plate and deliver, 360 has always been competitive and had converted PC gamers to hold a console controller and play…and you are the Hardcore of all console, and reminded me of my Sega Genesis playing those anti nintendo cute games.
