PS3 Software Update V3.15 – Data Transfer & Minis Hit The ps3

Yes another playstation 3 update will be out in the next couples of days and it is version 3.15, this update will be optional so when you turn on your ps3 and don’t see a the update sign just head over to settings and click software update and it should be there.

There is 2 major features in this update, and they are explained below.

The psp minis come to the PS3

Minins for the playstation 3 will go on sale on december 17th, around 75% of the previous mins will be available to download from that date also. And playstation have thought about you guys who have already brought a mini for your psp and want it to work on your ps3, just go to the download list in the playstation store and re-download it then it will work on your playstation 3 also.

If you would like to see the info on the other feature in this update

Ps3 Data Transfer

This feature lets you transfer all your saved game data from your playstation 3 to another playstation 3 wirelessly. It is really simple to do this just follow the info below.

  1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV
  2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings menu and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
  3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
  4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
  5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system

@projectx126: Well, I think it’s a great feature. I’d like to know what you would like to see for Sony to make you happy. lol I mean it seems like Microsoft can do no wrong but when Sony gives you more features, they’re immediately cast aside and aren’t “that big an update.” I personally think it’s because they do updates every few months instead of once or twice a year like Microsoft. I bet if the PS3 did it like Microsoft, people would be able to see the differences better. But I, personally, like getting the updates several times a year (the way they’re doing it now).

I personally really dont care about this and i think it should have been stuffed in with either the previous FW update or the next (BIG)* firmware update. Little updates that this that basically do nothing, for most people are why people complain when sony announces a supposedly (big*) FW update and there’s really not much there, its because they split everything up way to much. -just my personal feelings

You could look at it like that … or you could look at it in the way that they put out a feature as soon as it’s ready, they don’t wait to stuff it into another update. I don’t see how saving it for one big update would benefit anybody.
All it would do is give one less thing for internet-dumbasses to complain about. It’s such a trivial matter that I’m surprised anybody really cares lol.

  8. Just a note about the “Big Update” that people always blabber on about …

Ok, obviously the Big Update people want to see is the one with X-game chat. Alright, now let’s fast-forward a few months to when that update is released. So will every subsequent update that contains something small like this be shunned too?

@DamonTheMoney: Yeah i understand your point too, however its not all true. Just because Sony is putting out these small updates DOESN’T mean that they are putting out right when the finish it… What Sony’s been doing is doing their FW features in phases, which i find EXTREMELY annoying. Instead of waiting until they are completely done with it. That is why i wish they would just hold onto these little features and “phases” until there done and put them in a REAL FW update. The phases can be seen in the likes of:”The whats new sections” (its first phases was apparently the news ticker, says eric lempel.) Facebook is apparently in phase 1… The PSN Store had a first phase and is now in a final phase. Theres so many other little phases they have had. Again thats just how i feel, and im sure other people feel different and like the small updates and i understand that. :)

@projectx126: Don’t count their motion controller out just yet. It might blow you away. We haven’t seen the games for it yet and what they’ll do with it.

well.. even though it’s nothing major, it is pretty major at the same time. Transfering data from old to new made easier. that’s a good idea and am glad the sony folks released it. i personally never thought of it but, it’s a nice thing to have just incase i wanna get a new ps3. If my ps3 craps out on me before i change it, i’ll just swap hardrives. I think theres a catch to just swapping them up… i havnt looked into it but i heard around of little problems or issues with SOME things.

You might not think it’s a big deal… until your blue ray drive craps out and you have to basically trade in your old ps3 for a refurbished 40-gig-no-backwards-compatibility POS or dropping $300 dollars for a new slim, either way losing all of your save data and having to restart every game you own. Fortunately I know enough to be able to replace my lens myself or this would’ve been me. If this update had happened 3 weeks ago I would have gotten a slim, transferred everything over and given the blue ray-less ps3 to my girlfriend.

Well that may well be true. However, either way I’m not too bothered. It’s only a 10-20 minute FW update, I’ll just do something else in that time.

@projectx126: To address Sony’s new motion controller, I’ve actually interested it. I don’t care much for anything new being developed, though. What has me interested is that various developers and publishers have stated they’re willing to port over some of their former Wii – exclusive projects due to the similarity of the control interfaces. I’d like “Dead Space: Extraction” and “Silent Hill: Shattered Memories” on PS3 if possible and hopefully it’ll happen.

@obiloww: I agree with Obiloww about PSP games on PS3; that would be a great move by Sony and lend towards their idea of complete entertainment integration. Imagine having a PSP game on both your PS3 & PSP, playing it to an extent on your PS3, and than you have to head out somewhere. You copy the save file from your PS3 to PSP and can continue from where you left off in the game on-the-go, nice. If this feature were implemented it could also help push sales of the PSP Go! as this would be another selling point of the system and it’s new format. Granted, you’d still be able to do this with the older units so people may not be willing to upgrade but this could bring a whole new group of gamers that never owned a PSP before on-board.

I think the Data Transfer service will be helpful to some and I’m wondering if MikeDemo will be using it to transfer any of his files from his older 60gb PS3 to his new Slim. Regarding the Minis, I’ve been on the fence with some of them due to their higher than anticipated cost ($10 for “Tetris”, seriously?) but with the addition of being able to play them on your PS3 I’ll be reconsidering their purchase. Overall I like this update. Yeah, I wish we could’ve gotten more but I trust those features everyone’s looking for are in the works. These are some cool features that not everyone will be able to utilize but those that can, will, and I think they’ll be greatful.
