November’s NPD Numbers Are In!
Last month was when the crazy shopping started like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, game sales skyrocketed. Nintendo had a very successful month last month with 1.7 million consoles sold and the DS was in second place with over 1.2 million sold, those are some numbers! The Xbox 360 was behind Nintendo with over 800,000 systems sold and the PS3 right after with over 700,000 systems sold. Even the PS2 sold a good amount of systems even though, well, no new games are really being made for it anymore. Find the sales for hardware and software after the break.

Am i shocked not really. Even though the ps3 has been doing a lot better than it has in the past it still has a ways to go before sales really catch up. I do agree ps3 is the best value of all the consoles out there but it got to a late start guys. Sony is doing an awesome job with marketing but thats not what little johnny is gonna ask his mommy this christmas. The demographic that sells during the holiday season is those kids that are anywhere between 8-16 right now. cause everyone at that age has a 360. the average age for ps3 owners in my opinion is about 17 to maybe 20-30′s. It’s cause the price has been way too high for so long. 599 499 and 399 was just too much to ask and why not go with a cheaper console if your a mom or dad that doesn’t know much about gaming. BUT!! good news is that this year ps3 has had way more great games than any of the other systems.

@dizzleest: Very true dude, but if those kid’s (store clerk’s or sale papers) would tell their mom or dad that xbox live is $50 a year just to play with friends then sales are goin to drop really bad. Me being a parent, I will tell u that i’d rather get my kids a PS3 before they get a 360.

@BeastModeYM420: yes it is $50 a year but people can still buy it for 16-17 dollars for every 3 months and that money isn’t notice as opposed to if you buy the whole year at once. but in anycase ps3 is not going to go past xbox this generation as far as sales go. they might make it interesting at the end of the life cycle but i don’t see them surpassing microsoft at this point in time

i kind of knew this was going to happen since everytime i went to a store walmart/gamestop/frys somebody was buying a 360.
those 2 games that come with the 360 is defenetly a reason for a dad to choose the 360 over the ps3.
and in frys (that is a HUGE electronic store) they have so many bundles on the 360.
like if u buy a tv they give u a 360. they have some very good deals. the other one is the xbox 360 elite and it came with 3 extra games. i did get this one since i wanted to upgrade from my 20gb one. it is a really big difference between both of them.
and yeah the ps3 probably wont catch up with the 360.
but neither of these will catch up with the WII.
I think is safe to say that the WII won this generation in sales. how many do they have now 60 million

December’s NPDs will be different. Do not worry. lol Final Fantasy XIII will bring the PS3 to the top for sure. Then, the PS3 has a killer lineup for Spring 2010. God of War III, GT5, etc. The PS3 will dominate the next few months, I believe.

with numbers like that u wonder why sony lose exclusives like ff13. it makes business sense to supply to MS also because they have the install base. look at mw2, 360 sold 2million copies more.
Sony needs to do 2 things:
advertise more. here in the uk i see a nintendo ad [featuring celebrities] every 15mins across most freeview channels
Sony also needs to make psn more competitive, because the ps3 is a gaming system first! i dont care for blu ray, i just need a better online service.
ultimately the ps3 is doing fine, but i hope as an obvious beta to the ps4, sony gets that one right

They didn’t ban the accounts, they banned the consoles from Live. So people can buy a brand new system, and they’ll be able to sign into their old account just fine. That’s one hell of a big number, and now all those people will have to buy new systems. I know it seems far-fetched, but I think that MS did it with sales partially in mind.

Keep in mind that i own both a 360 and ps3. so i would know better than others would. to be quite honest, each system attracts a different crowd. ive found that the 360 attracts a younger demographic and the ps3 attracts a relatively older crowd. now, considering more kids are going to play video games than older generations. you would expect to see more 360 serving that demographic than ps3 and vice versa. So in reality, these numbers are only relative. thats why i say numbers don’t really matter.

are you high? The ps3 is technologically the edge of gaming this gen. Having the next generation of disk being the blu ray disk. Even though the PSN doesnt have a couple of features that the xbox has, the ps3 also has features that the xbox doesnt if im correct:) i.e. vidzone, web browser etc. For a console the ps3 is the most advanced piece of tech out in the market. And the games that sony have been producing and the games that are in production have EDGE i.e imagination, graphics, gamplay, and somthing different that other consoles just cant produce. And dont compare halo and GOW2 to a U2 or GOW3 because sales do not matter when it comes to the quality of a game.
Finally, Killzone 2, Assassins Creed 2, COD’s, and all the games out for BOTH consoles are gory. so come out with another fanboy comment pls because we all know your going to.

You really can’t compare features when Xbox Live is $50 dollars more than PSN a year. When you said that the PS3′s trophy system “sucks balls” that is also an opinion, why do trophies suck? Can you say why? You get the same awards as you do on Xbox Live but the leveling system is different on both, some people argue that the PS3′s system is more easier because of all things compared like number of trophies, platinum trophies, trophy level, etc…

Firstly im not a fanboy. Personally I dont have time to care what people call there prefered console. I stated and will state again that the ps3 is technologically more advanced than the xbox. Theres no argument about that because its fact.
Also you said that the xbox has better software. This is only the case due to cross game chat all the other features you mentioned are also on the ps3. “facebook, twiiter” dont need to be intergrated because the ps3 has a WEB BROWSER. So not only can i go on facebook and twiter but i can also type this comment from my ps3.
The ps3 has a better software line up aswell for 2010, so its already beating the xbox there. The only thing that the xbox can say is that it has a higher install base in AMERICA. Just because your country seems to like hearing kids being racist, chatting shit about moms over LIVE doesnt mean that the rest of the world wanna hear it. The install base is higher in EU and in Asia so technically number’s are going in the favour of the ps3 aswell worldwide.
So in the end the xbox has only got one thing which is cross game chat. And maybe this is just me, but i sure as hell wouldnt trade in all the con’s that the ps3 has over a petty piece of software shit like cross game chat.

japanese numbers arent counted in NPD its only america and i think 360 will still win, its just the more popular system this gen, i think sony is gonna push out ps4 quick and still keep the ps3 to get the larger market share, MS will probably try to prolong this gen because they are winning, expect ps4 soon
