LittleBigPlanet Update V.1.21 Out Monday With Online Create Mode

On November 30th LittleBigPlanet will be getting there biggest update yet, it will include Online Create Mode, Networking fixes & location-based matchmaking, Save Game Rewrite, Increased profile space and Much More.

For the rest of the info

Online Create – Now you can create with up to three other players online across the internet, across the world!

Networking fixes & location-based matchmaking – We’ve rewritten both the way the game handles networking code and the way it finds people for you to play with when you hit ‘Play Online’. Now, it searches for people who are closer to you and more likely to have a lower ping. This should bring significant improvements to lag and other networking problems.

The POD Computer will first try to match based on location, if this fails it will fall back to matching with any location.

Save game rewrite – We’ve changed the way your saved games work to make it faster, more flexible and more robust. It also means you’ll be able to save way more stuff.

On a PS3, there are two places games store data – the Game Data folder and the Save Data folder. Previously your automatic save would be stored in the Save Data folder. We’ve changed it so that your save is now stored in the Game Data folder.

Profile Backup – The save game backup options can be found in the Profile Settings page of the Start Menu:
Backup Profile – This will create a back-up copy of your profile, progress, and your levels into a folder in the Save Data Utility. It is also handy if you want to copy your profile to another PS3 Import Profile – Lets you import / restore a previous back-up from the Save Data Utility.

Increased profile space
– On top of the extra space you get from the save game re-write, we’ve also doubled the number of photos and costumes that you can save to Popit.

Well it’s about damn time, I’m wondering if the online create mode wasn’t ready until now. If they knew it was going to take longer to create this feature then they should of delayed it till this year and not launch it last year.

  3. These are some awesome (and in the case of the network code, much needed) improvements. Loving it :-)

And it’s going to make a lot of people shut the hell up too, lol.

It’s not just like they’re adding a layer of blue stuff that makes you float, they’re adding physics to it so that it can interact with the environment and flow, so it can be used in water-wheels etc. So I’m more than happy to wait for it, I want them to do it perfectly.

They’re not making a sequel to LBP, this is basically the platform that they’re going to be building onto for a few years. So we’re going to be waiting for a lot of things on it. Which is great I think.

Supposedly it’s going to be a free update, but I’m just going to get that out of my head so I won’t be disappointed, it’s only rumours after all. I think it’ll probably be around £3. I’ll certainly pay for it, I’ve been working on some great levels for a while now and water would be absolutely game changing for me.

@DamonTheMoney: Yeah it’s good that they’re not just gonna make a sequel. Offering more and more updates adds value to our $60 game. It’s better for the consumer.

On another note, I just bought a 120gb Slim PS3 at GameStop and it came with the God of War Collection and LittleBigPlanet. They gave me $75 trade-in for my 40gb PS3 with the blu ray drive messed up. I’m updating the firmware now and I can’t wait to start playing again. lol I hope I can get my profile back so I can stay blumatt.

No, because LBP PSP doesn’t have any multiplayer features, and it was developed by a completely different company (not Media Molecule).

As for you saying they should move onto the next LBP, they’re not making another one. They want to expand on this one (water etc) and use it as a platform, which makes a whole lot more sense than a new game really.

lol, funny beginning. But you’re totally right, it took them a year to fix their game. that’s ridiculous.

As far as bringing out a new LBP, I disagree with you there. There’s well over 1 million levels that have been made for LBP now, so if they bring out a sequel, all the hard work that thousands of people have put in (including me) will be moot. That would be a slap in the face IMO. I’d be happy if they bring one out next generation.

I don’t really feel that they need to improve the graphics. Well, I suppose you can always improve upon graphics, but they’re already great for the art style of the game. So I wouldn’t think better graphics would constitute a new game.
And I can’t say I know much about the physics, but I’m pretty sure that LBP uses some of the best physics out there, and they seem perfect to me. But like I said, I don’t know much about that.

I’m with you 100% that it sucks that it took a whole year for them to bring us this, but who knows why. They re-wrote the entire online code after all, so it may well have taken them all this time to do it. They wouldn’t hold it back specifically to make us unhappy lol, there must be a reason.

I really wish I could leave an Audio Comment/Reply, but I don’t know how to work my microphone built into the laptop :-(
