Only a few days ago, Netflix announced that they were partnering with Sony to bring their service to the PlayStation 3. They sent out emails today notifying users that their Netflix streaming disc was shipped out and could be at their door by tomorrow. For those who don’t know you will have to stream Netflix videos from a disc on the PS3 until sometime next year when their agreement with Microsoft ends, then the service will be integrated into the system. You can get your free streaming disc right here on the Netflix official website if you’re interested.

This is great. Every feature Sony adds to the PS3 just gives it that much more value. I might get an account once they implement it into the XMB.

I wish Netflix was availible in the UK, I would most certainly take advantage of this. But the Video Store is coming soon

Thats cool that it will be integrated into the XMB cause I was thinking the disc would be it and well that just sucks.

Sony will really shut it down IF (thats a big IF) they drop the PS3D update & xtitle chat.

So does this mean Sony will finally allow their movies to be instantly streamed? I don’t see why not now… It kinda sucks that Sony owns over half the movies in the world but wont stream ANY of them

@Jordan: They’ll probably ONLY allow them to be streamed via Netflix on the PS3, which is fine by me. Being one of the largest movie studios will help them out a lot in the future.

One of my friends told me shitbox didn’t have sony movies in the netflix thing. I thought that was pretty funny. My PS3 like many others out there have WMP to stream from the PC. lol I wonder how M$ feel about that.

If Sony include’s there movies in Netflix then thats a good feature. Just for the fact that we can stream them instead of download them.

i was thinking since the disc is a blu-ray does that mean the picture will look better than the x-box?

@donnellz: No, the blu ray media is irrelevant in this sense. It’s only a means to an end. That is, it’s just going to be used to ACCESS the Netflix feature. There will be no difference in picture quality.

i dont understand y sony is even doing this, they already have a great movie library in the video store WITH a rent option. why dont they just offer a monthly fee similar to netflix and collect all the profits????
i must b missing something, can anyone tell me what sony is thinking?

@sacco2011: Damn that’s gotta burn a lil bit. lol
@SpecialK916: You have a good point dude. Sony is missing out on some serious cash giving it to netflix. They should join up with GamyFly or someone like that to rent out games via PSN or GameFly on the XMB. THAT I would be happy to pay for.
