i was about to post this in the forum.

only problem i have with this. is they should have waited until they had it to were it would run natively off the XMB. but at 1st you have to request a BD disc to use the feature.

  4. This is cool, I’ve heard people talking about it. Well done Sony on tying this down.

But won’t this undercut some of the movie sales from the PS Store?

  5. And I just thought about this, this is FREE. FREE! FUCK YES CAPS LOCK!!

(For those of you out there who are like “WTF you idiot you still have to pay the fee, it says right there!”, you only have to pay the Netflix fee, so for people who already have Netflix this is amazingly awesome. There’s no extra charge, unlike … some other systems which will not be named.)

I take it we will need to update for this, so that would be 3.10 which = the next update, which = cross game chat.

Well, that would make sense. Just don’t get your hopes up, if it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t.

This is great. I put alot of hours on my 360 from Netflix. Now I’ll just be using the Xbox for gaming. NO MORE RROD.

Also you guys can use somebody’s elses account to get netflix. WHen start an account you can activate 6 devices for instant streaming, and all 6 don’t have to be your devices(wink wink), nor do you have to pay any extra to activate all 6. I’ve giving codes to both my brothers, my father and one buddy on my XBL friends list.

Now the question has to be asked, is a party system worth £40 ($50?) for a party system and cross-game chat. If Sony is to win the console war they need to unveil something nobody else is doing. Sony now have the opportunity, to put the ball in their court.

If you think XBL is just the PSN with cross game chat and a party system, then your OVER simplifying your question.

    Agenda??

Do you guyz think PSN will let us rent games from them? That would be pretty damn sick and then I wouldn’t have to leave as often.

If you actually read the press release, this will not need a firmware update. Netflix users request a blue ray disc from Netflix and the whole interface works through BD-live services. Essentially it’s a blank blue ray disk where the ‘Extras’ section opens a streaming line to your Netlix instant queue.

  20. joe_bevis says:

@Cheese: so your paying more so you can have the belief that it will improve, the PSN service isn’t very far behind Xbox live and I don’t think that it’s worth the extra money.

You have to pay that money every year, I haven’t had to pay a single penny to play online since I got my ps3. What have they added this year? twitter and facebook, great I can do that on my ps3 already. Also people in the UK pay more for xbox live but get less features, we can’t use netflix but m$ has no problem charging people more here.

Sony has given us a free music streaming service

Im really excited for this but what will they do With the psn video store will they combine it or something becauce to me psn video store is better than Xbox netflix we get movies faster In better HD

  22. @akinsaya:

The video store and Netflix are going to be two completely separate things. The Netflix on PS3 is mainly for people who already own Netflix, because they can use it on their PS3 at no extra cost.

  23. @Cheese:

Are you really saying that PSN is just playing catch-up with Live? There’s Vidzone, the PS Video Store, the comic book store, Home. They’ve got all this original content, I don’t see what you’re basing your argument on apart from X-Game chat.

And, no $50 a year isn’t a lot of money. But if the Xbox 360 is built around Live, it’s main selling point, why isn’t it included in the box? You shouldn’t have to continue paying for the thing that makes your console what it is, you should just have to pay for the console. It’s about the principal.

And I’m not even going to bother saying anything about that “incentive” bullshit. That’s a load of crap and you know it.

    lol

netflix on ps3 is no big new since we in the uk don’t benefit from it. why couldn’t sony make an icon on the xmb, y do people need to insert a disc. y is sony focusing on irrelevant features like these.
and to answer the question dlb raised on the podcast…i think psn games fail after a few weeks, because they lack community features! most games don’t support headset, the ones that do either lag so much or take forever to get playing. we need more co-op arcade games that support mics!

  26. @obiloww:

I think it needs the disk because that’s the only way the PS3 can stream HD data quickly and sufficiently. It’s not exactly a huge problem, all you do is walk over and insert the disk. I don’t really see why that makes it an irrelevant feature.

  27. @ EVERYBODY

The disk is only a temporary solution. Netflix has just stated that they are working on a software update for the PS3 that will do away with any need for the disk. There, problem solved.

I’m trying to think how the PSN has evolved there online gaming experience??? I know about the extra bullshit features that have nothing to do with gaming, like the comic book store(is that for people who are illiterate??) and vidzone, I don’t use my PS3 for that.

Just forget about the extra media bullshit like the PS store. Think of ONLINE GAMING. Like Xchat. How is the XBL experience different from what’s offered on the PSN(and don’t’ say free)?? How is COD4 ONLINE different on the PSN compared to XBL??

    HELP ME FIND THESE ANSWERS!!

remember guys this is all matter of preference(No flame wars, life is too short) sorry if it reads like i’m a dickhead.

on the whole disc subject, Michael Pachter came out with a statement about it…

“We believe that the exclusive arrangement [with Microsoft] limits Netflix’s ability to appear on the ‘dashboard’ for the PS3 or the Wii.”

    @DamonTheMoney:

The reason why it’s being run from a disc is not because the XMB or PSN can’t handle it, it’s because Netflix has a contract with MS(360) right now. The disc simply allows them to put the service on the PS3 with out breaking their contract it is simply a way around everything. http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/700212/More-Netflix-On-PlayStation-3-Details-HD-Streaming-Eventually-No-Disc-Required.html

“At the outset, in order to access Netflix on your PlayStation 3, you’ll need to pop in a disc. The disc is free and yours to keep. All you need to do is ask for one and keep it nearby when you want to access Netflix streaming. That’s not permanent. Swasey confirmed Netflix will have an “embedded solution” (i.e. a proper application, ala Xbox 360) “at some point,” but couldn’t say when.

Swasey wouldn’t comment on speculation that it’s a disc-based solution at the moment to get around whatever exclusivity contract the company currently has with Microsoft. Regardless, PlayStation 3 users will eventually have a more elegant way to access Netflix that doesn’t require a disc, but according to Swasey, this was the “fastest and easiest way to get PlayStation 3 members now.”

is that even Legal, why do MS make these trademark rights, its like inventing a shoe and say no other shoe maker may make shoes to be worn on the foot. that’s absurd, i just very much dislike MS for that
