It’s funny you say that. I was just watching a show called American Originals on CNBC which was featuring the Anheuser Busch. One of the guys said, “Advertising heavily and having a great product doesn’t guarantee you a lock on the number on spot.”

It was very important because Sony has the better hardware. They even have a free comparable service to Xbox Live. We can argue all day but Sony has the better product. But you say they need to advertise. Why?

Everybody is complaining about their advertising but they still outsold the Xbox 360 when compared in their first two years? Killzone is 2 is possible one of the greatest games ever made but they choose not to push that either. Why? Because sometimes it’s cheaper NOT to advertise.

Sony is losing money on consoles already. Spending money to advertise individual gamers heavily would cost them dearly.

Let me put this in perspective for you. I work for a company that spread nationwide but we’re still relatively small and service about 1.3 million people currently.

We will be spending about 70 to 120 million dollars this next year in advertising and marketing. You probably will get sick of our commercials. Sony can’t afford to spend that much money on EACH game or even the PS3!

Right now, word of mouth and this new age of digital journalists are doing their dirty work for them. Spending money to make a game or buy it exclusive then adding money to market these games is an incredible amount to swallow.

You’re forgetting that Microsoft has severely deep pockets because of Windows. There’s no way Sony can outspend them so why not let Microsoft spend their money like crazy and let word of mouth do the talking for you?
