The name ‘Modern Warfare 2′ has been strongly pushed as the new name of the Call of Duty franchise over the past months, with strictly ‘Modern Warfare 2′ showing up as the name on trailers, screenshots, boxarts, and even the official website. Today, Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s director of communications tweeted that he just received the official box art for the upcoming Call of Duty game with the picture above displaying ‘Call of Duty’ in front of Modern Warfare 2 now.

Activision Confirmed with the following: Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title’s package.

It’s better that they keep the name call of duty in the title. You know how some people get confused and will probably not know it is call of duty. Like parents that buy it for their kids.

Infinity Ward: We’re dropping the COD prefix, this game is strong enough to go by the title Modern Warfare 2.
    Activision: STFU, it’s COD. kthxbai.

It seems like Activision/Infinity Ward is getting pretty cocky with this game overall.

Yeah they are but COD4 is the best selling shooter of all time so why shouldnt they be…and MW2 is going to be amazing guaranteed Infinity Ward knows what they are doing unlike Treyarch with that WAW Shit.

LOL, Hey son u kwon what kills me. That fact that they have advertisement for this game and it doesn’t release 4 another 4 months and it’s been on tv 2 months before hand. I think that is too early. 2 months before release would had been better, I think.

You nailed it on the head. For marketing reasons, I think it is smart that they keep the names together so they can truly capitalize on the first installment of Modern Warfare.

I am surprising not that hype for this game. My eyes are fixed on MAG.

Yes, I preordered this game a while ago. If you didn’t like COD4, I don’t think you’re going to like COD: MW2. The gameplay will be the same.

I can’t believe people want mag over mw2, it can’t compete just like killzone 2 couldn’t compete.

Yea man, I agree. I guess they just want to make sure that this game is as successful as the first one. I’m sure it will be, tho not necessarily because of me buying it as I’m not sure I will yet. lol ;)

not everyone has to like COD because a majority has it. there are better (yes better) games coming than MW2.

Funny you should say that gamepro. It reminds me of Activision’s demand of a price drop. I don’t even think I would miss them. Heck I’m not even worried about Call of Duty on the PS3.

I’m sure many other people want to play yet another installment of that series, but I’m ready to move on to something fresh…otherwise, I’d still be playing COD4. MAG offers that and Killzone is flat out fantastic. They just feel so different all these annual releases and keeps me wanting new things.

I never said everyone has to like cod, but it is better than killzone thats just my opinion. I bought killzone and traded it in after a couple months it has really good graphics but the game feels sluggish. Just look up the sales comparing the two, cod outsells killzone by alot and thats without counting 360 sales. If a game is popular its popular for a reason it must be a really good game.
