Ultimate DJ Brings Hip Hop to the Music Game Genre

via endgadget:

Are the blatant rockist tendencies of Guitar Hero and Rock Band ruining your enjoyment of those otherwise brilliant titles? Of course they are — we noted your b-boy flava from two blocks away. But don’t sweat it because Genius Products, 7 Studios and Quincy Jones III have your niche in their sights and will happily sell you Scratch: The Ultimate DJ when it hits the stores sometime in Spring 2009. With a game controller designed by Numark (known worldwide for its DJ controllers — there’s an example for you after the break), the game will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and feature tracks by “many” (as yet unnamed) hip-hop artists. Trevor Drinkwater, President and CEO of Genius Products promises all and sundry “a cutting-edge game that captures the vital energy of hip-hop culture.” And here we thought they were cynically jumping on the Guitar Hero bandwagon! We stand corrected.

It’s about time someone made Hip Hop into a music game. I would probably like a music game like Guitar Hero if it had Hip Hop in it. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith had only had one rap song I heard with Run DMC so it’s about time game developers stop underrating Hip Hop in their music games because we are the most popular genre in music out now.

The only game series with Hip Hop I can think of is Def Jam so ups to EA even though the Orange Box on the PS3 sucks, lol.

Activision trademarked DJHero last year. If these guys have dope tracks and can do long term DLC ala RB and GH, Activision shot themselves in the foot for not putting out earlier.

i dont think hip hop is being underrated. its just with guitar hero/rockband, its fun to play fake instruments to different songs we know and/or grow to like. with hip hop its a little different where the tools needed would be a mic and a turntable. im not sure how much fun that would be, but im interested to see how this game turns out. also, it seems to me like the hip hop crowd only likes hip hop for some reason and dismiss all other types of music. not trying to start a fight, but i do notice a lot of hip hop fans being the first to yell ‘what the F are we listening to? change this sh1t’… whenever something else is on…

I know what skit you are talking about.. haha. well i didnt mean to generalize. i think its just the ignorant ones who need the radio to tell them whats good. and also, there are a good numer of popular songs that a lot of ppl like that were originally country songs… back at one (brian mcknight), i will always love you (whitney houston), dont wanna miss a thing (aerosmith), and i swear (all4one) just to name a few… those were all covers.
