One of the most requested features to come with In-Game XMB was Voice Chat. However when 2.40 arrived, many people were disappointed to hear that it wouldn’t be featured with the update. Sony will deliver this addition sometime later this year, however they also hope to go one step further: In-Game Video Chat. And we’re not just talking about video chatting while you have the game paused. According to an inside source, In-Game Video Chat will enable you to video chat with a friend while actually playing your game. It will work in a similar fashion to BD-Live where there is a PiP (Picture in Picture) window in the top right corner of the screen so you can see your friend(s) while you chat with them. It’s unclear when exactly this will arrive but it should come via firmware update by the end of this year.

ps3s processor has so many cores that it should be able to run many aplications at the same time, im pretty sure that after this theres gona be a lot more to come. this is just another reason why ps3 is gona own!!!

ok not against the whole video chat in-game thing…but seriously…why would you need to video chat with someone while in-game? maybe sendin snapshots while in game for aid or something would be suffice but video? that would cause the game to run slower and hopefully this wouldnt be implemented online….that would definitely not be valuable.

This is a good and harmless innovation. People may argue whats the point, buy I refute why not? This can create a good single player environment, technically making all games “online”, for example many Bethesda or Final Fantasy fans can go through the game together giving the game a true experience with a friend somewhere far ways away.

Interesting. However they should make it so that we have an option between a plain ol’ chat and video chat.
They should also make it so that you can have 2 screens separate and not one on top of the other. Some games need every single little bit of space on the screen.

Good idea but like MagNuM-OPs said. Yes the PS3 can run it with a game and be fine but its not Sony thats setting up all the games its 3rd party that i am worried about.. Regular Private chat would be fine with me…
